Captain Roland Waits, of the Georgetown Police Department, spoke today in his own inimitable way about personal protection. Using humor as his muse, Captain Waits took us into his "hood" and showed us how to be more aware of our surroundings and environment. Everyone left that morning with tricks of the trade and a smile on their face!

Today we discussed "Loving Fiercely", and how this authentic calling can help us revitalize our leadership. Patricia Speier, D.Min., showed us that leadership is best served when we reach deep into ourselves and include those inner ways, such as truthfulness, sincerity, and integrity, into our every day lives. It was a soul-searching morning, but each of us came out with insight into ourselves that will help us reconcile our outer-directed culture with our inner ways.

In June, Sandy Pate discussed the benefits of getting an MBA. With today's economy, it was very helpful to talk about how education could help us get ahead in the marketplace. Many of our members are currently working on their degrees, and this topic was especially relevant to them. Attendees looked at the pros and cons of higher education, and how beneficial and life-changing it could be.

This month we focused on our members and took the time to get to know each other on both a personal and professional level. Members, new and old, as well as guests, took part in several different networking activities designed to educate, energize and invigorate.

It was a blast, and we always enjoy getting to know more about our members!

What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon - giving back to the community in the form of scholarships. In just three years, PWoW has been able to double the number of scholarships awarded from two to four.

This year's applicants were all extremely deserving, but PWoW chose the following four recipients based on their commitment to themselves and their communities. We hope everyone can have the pleasure of meeting all of these fine women.

Ever wonder why some people always look so put together, and others don't? Cindy Barron explained to us some tricks of the trade when it comes to putting together a personal yet professional look.

With an awe-inspiring personal story of her own, Cindy took us through several different wardrobe changes as she illustrated how clothes CAN make the woman. She talked to us about our color palettes and how different styles can present a picture to your audience.

She also answered questions related to professional style etiquette and managed to show us at least fifteen different looks in less than half an hour - an amazing feat!

Wow! What a way to start 2009! Donna Johnson came, spoke and empowered PWoW members this month.

A passionate, humorous, straight talking speaker, Donna talked about the importance of taking care of ourselves first and why this is a selfless, not selfish, act. She told us about her personal experiences and how she drew strength from difficult situations. She gave advice on how to foster personal success, prosperity and growth.

It was inspiring to hear about how this single mom and victim of domestic violence overcame the odds to become a successful entrepeneur who continues to this day to overcome adversity and limitations.

Learn more about Donna at her website www.donnaljohnson.comor read about her in the March issue of Redbook at http://www.redbookmag.com/money-career/benefit-from-recession-3#.

Because of the inclement weather, our speaker Donna Johnson was rescheduled for February. Instead, we used January to network with the PWoW members who braved the icy roads to attend the meeting.

December 2008

We combined our November and December meeting into one in deference of everyone's busy holiday schedules. We held our meeting on December 3, 2008 at 7:30 am at our regular location, the Hilton Garden Inn.

November 2008

Instead of the regular monthly meeting in November, we were fortunate to be able to host an After Hours Event at Carol Eckelkamp's new office in Round Rock. There were food, drinks and refreshments as over 30 women came together after work to socialize and network.
