Professional Women of Williamson County was founded on the mission to educate, empower and enrich professional women's lives. To strive to meet this goal PWOW has developed a Community Outreach committee. This committee's goal is to set up a quarterly outreach project for the PWOW community to participate in.
In 2009, PwoW members began quarterly Community Outreach projects to help members engage in helping Williamson County non-profits organizations in a meaningful manner. PWoW members have the opportunity to nominate organizations and events to be considered for approval and action by PWoW.
We hope that every member will be motivated to get involved as we strive to assist those that need it most in our communities!
Habitat For Humanity Project-Completed
The Brown family - a single mother with two children; an 8-year-old son and a 9-year-old daughter - will purchase their home at 1726 Candee Street after its completion. Currently, Ms. Brown works two jobs in order to make ends meet. She will complete her bachelor's degree in education soon and hopes to secure a job as a teacher and coach. The family is very excited to have a home in Georgetown and will be investing 300 hours of what Habitat refers to as "sweat equity" to help build their home.
PWOW contributed time, funds and in-kind goods to help complete the Habitat house at 1726 Candee Street in Georgetown. Thanks to those who contributed funds; a total of $405 was raised. Other praise goes to those who contributed toilet paper, water, etc. for our construction site volunteers. And a special thanks goes to those who worked on the house. The site volunteers caulked, puttied and painted a good portion of the house interior on Wednesday, April 14.
Texas Baptist Children's Home Cottage 13 redecorate Project-Completed
The Texas Baptist Children's Home cottage #13 livingroom redecoration project is complete!! I want to take a second to extend a huge thanks to everyone who contributed funds, time and food on this project. We were able to raise $400 and had 9 volunteers help on the day of. All in all, we were able to give them a total livingroom and kids playroom makeover. In the kids playroom we cleaned out the toys, bleached the remaining toys, rearranged two rugs for them to play on and we were able to buy two new bean bags so they can sit and watch the new TV that TBCH provided for them.
In the livingroom we were able to transform this area into a very comfortable cozy new space. With lots of throw blankets and pillows they are sure to love snuggling up in their new chairs we were able to purchase. We also found some great frames so they can start having family pictures around. Some of these families will be there for up to 18 months so comfort and feeling at home is so important. We finished off the project with 2 pans of lasagnas in the oven, salad, bread and dessert so they would have plenty of time to enjoy their new livingroom and kids playroom.
